Part 1 ... “The Beginning”    VIDEO:  1-A  ... 1-B

Memory Verse:
“Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a
good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”
~Philippians 1:6

Make no mistake about it — life is a gift from God.  There are many people that may disagree with that statement perhaps because of what they believe life has “dealt” them. Life is not always easy and there is nowhere in the Bible we are told that it will be. Life can however be fulfilling and rewarding and what we invest in it we will certainly get out of it.

The Apostle Paul described the reaping and sowing of the Christian life and this truly explains life in general. We know that the way that we live will have a direct connection to our quality of life. However, we also know that good living does not always shelter us from bad experiences.

The Christian life is made up of the expected and much of the unexpected. God has an amazing ability of keeping us on our spiritual toes. One day all may be well with us and the next thing you know the bottom may drop out and we experience a trial that may seem like will never end. At all times it is the will of God that we learn and grow in order to succeed in the Christian life. Learning and growing will equip us to respond correctly to life’s challenges and also help us to live correctly with regard to God’s will.

Someone has wisely said that success in the Christian life is to glorify God and to find His will and do it. I would agree with this statement in general, but sometimes things that are easily said and more challenging to do.

This series of lessons that I have entitled “The Journey” will hopefully give us an oppor-tunity to learn about some of the experiences of the Christian life. Some we may be familiar with and some perhaps not so familiar. Either way, our objective will be to gain more knowledge and understanding, better equip ourselves to be godly examples for others in order that our lives may glorify God. ~RM

Part 2 ... “The Newness”    VIDEO:  2-A ... 2-B

Memory Verse:
“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God:
many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”  ~Psalms 40:3

Anyone that has asked God to forgive their sins and received Jesus Christ as their Savior is described as a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). With that experience there are so many unknowns concerning the Christian life. Although the excitement may manifest itself in different ways for different people, it is always truly exciting.

In November of 1984, after making the most important decision of my life — to trust Christ as my Savior — I really didn’t know what would come of my life and the impact that one decision would make in my life at that time. All I really knew was that there was some type of “newness” about life. In the midst of the many challenges that I faced I felt an incredible sense of relief that I had made the right choice and that somehow my life would never be the same.  I was right!

Like most people I knew there were a handful of things that I should start doing, one was going to church. Even the unsaved know that Christians are supposed to go to church and it makes me wonder what they think of Christians who don’t. So then — knowing little to nothing — my girlfriend (who is now my wife) and I set out on this journey called the Christian life.

In this part of our series we will seek to find Bible references to “newness.”  In our journey we will seek to learn whether this experience of “newness” is something that is unique to some and not others, or perhaps, do each of us have the opportunity and privilege of this experience throughout our Christian life.

Always keep in mind that our Christian life should not be governed only by experiences. However, there are many experiences that reflect the teachings of the Bible that we can use to learn and increase our faith. So then, the first scripture we will look to will be our memory verse for this part of our series.  ~RM

“Let us not give up  meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing,
but let us encourage one another —
and all the more as
you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:25 NIV
“If then you were  raised with Christ,
seek those things  which are above,
where Christ is,
sitting at the right hand of God.
Set your mind on  things above,
not on things on the earth.
For you died, and your life is
hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ who is our life appears,
then you also will appear
with Him in glory. ”
Colossians 3:1-4 NKJV
The Ten Attitudes
Four Stages of Sobriety
The Journey
So very ignorant to the things of God, yet so very encouraged by them as well. I was truly experiencing what the Bible described as “all things are become new.” So many questions and it seemed so few answers.
  •  How can I change the way that I live?
  •  Does God really love me the way people say that He does?
  •  What will I do with my life?
  •  What should I do with my life?
  •  What does God want from my life?
These are all questions that I have since learned are common and sincere. For me, I really did not know where or how to start. I just knew I was different than I was before and I liked it.
